Come Sing With Us
The Brearley Singers, a non-auditioned chorus based on the Upper East Side of Manhattan. Our rehearsal are Monday nights from 7 to 9 PM. We are affiliated with the Brearley School, a K-12 school for girls. The Brearley Singers is dedicated to presenting beautiful choral music and to advancing the musicianship of all involved, while maintaining a fun and friendly atmosphere. Since we are a non-audition chorus with no requirements of prior singing experience or training, our programs are developed at a pace that allows even beginning singers to feel comfortable in learning the music for each concert. All rehearsals are held at The Brearley School, 610 East 83rd Street on the Upper East Side near Carl Schurz Park.
The Brearley Singers presents two concerts each season. Our next concert will be Friday, May 16 and will feature Duruflé's Requiem with orchestra. The chorus is conducted by Stephen Black, who is beginning his third year with the ensemble.
If you are interested in sharing good singing, please call (917) 239-0919.
All members of the Brearley community and any others who simply want to sing with a chorus (and are looking for a Monday night rehearsal) are welcome to join The Brearley Singers.
We are a nonaudition chorus but otherwise have the following stringent qualification requirements:
• Love to Sing
• Have extensive musical experience
• Have no musical experience whatsoever
• Love to Sing
• Think you can sing
• Have pets who think you can sing
• Know every Broadway show tune ever written by heart
• Enjoy having fun singing with other people
• Love to Sing
• Have strong associations with the Brearley School
• Have never heard of the Brearley School
• Love to Sing
• Take longer than normal showers to finish your arias
• Not able to live without a song in your heart
Anyway, you get the picture. Singing great music while having great fun is our primary goal. We do focus on training our voices and expanding our musicianship and knowledge of music, but never at the sacrifice of enjoying ourselves and helping others enjoy their music as well, regardless of their level of experience. If you join, you will prepare two concerts, a December Holiday Concert and a classical Spring Concert under the able and patient direction of our Music Director, Stephen Black.
Please come to a Monday evening rehearsal and give us a try. You may click the Membership Application to send us your contact information. All voice parts are welcome. (Tenors, expect an inordinate amount of attention!)
